Beatriz Martin Jimenez, Global Chief Operating Officer, UBS Investment Bank and UK Chief Executive, UBS AG (London Branch and UBS Limited)

Beatriz has been the Global Chief Operating Officer for UBS Investment Bank since 2015. She also held the position of UK Chief Operating Officer from 2014 until 2018 when she was appointed UK Chief Executive for UBS AG London Branch and UBS Limited. Beatriz joined UBS in 2012 as the Chief of Staff to the CEO of the Investment Bank. Before joining UBS, she held positions at Morgan Stanley covering Solutions Sales and as Head of European Fixed Income Banks Solutions in Europe. Between 2004 and 2009 she was MD and Head of Iberia Fixed Income Sales. She is fluent in Spanish, German and English.  

  • Beatriz Martin has overseen a number of technology milestones that the investment bank has achieved during the course of 2018, chief among which is its UBS Flow toolchain.
  • Other key developments Martín mentions include the firm's relationship with Microsoft Azure and the creation of UBS' Cloud Business Office.
  • Martín has three primary objectives: to develop the firm's cloud-native digital solutions on Microsoft Azure; to capitalize on its collaboration with industry peers and fintech partners around smart contracts and communications; and increase the use of container-based technologies
  • Cannot think of another woman in the industry who is CEO of a tier-one investment bank. Therefore, by definition, she is unique.

Patrick is an executive with over 30 years of experience in banking, advanced technology, architecture and management consulting. Patrick is responsible for the CTO  Strategy and Architecture function within Credit Suisse. Before Credit Suisse, Patrick was Groups CTO and Head of Strategy & Planning for the COO division within Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ). He has worked with many companies across Europe, Asia, Australia and North America, including Bankers Trust, WIT Capital, Rabobank, AXA, IBM and HCL Technologies. Patrick has a Doctorandus degree in Applied Economics, Master in Financial Sciences  and a Postgraduate in Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Sciences. He is an Enterprise Professor at the Engineering School of Melbourne University.

Jo joined Goldman Sachs in 1997 in the Investment Research Division in London, automating statistical research products. In 2001, she assumed responsibility for EMEA Compliance Technology. In 2006, Jo relocated to New York to take on responsibility for Global Compliance Technology and in 2008 her responsibilities expanded to include Legal, Internal Audit and Conflicts Technology. Upon returning to London in 2010, Jo assumed additional responsibility for EMEA Federation Technology. She was named managing director in 2008.Prior to joining the firm, Jo was responsible for Global Volume Trading Technology at NatWest Markets.Jo has a first class degree and PhD in Computer Science.

Richard Herbert

Richard leads GBM Technology, a global function of IT professionals delivering sustainable solutions that balance business, cost, risk and regulatory demands, with growth and innovation. His key goal is to support the business aspirations of GBM through all aspects of technology delivery and support.

Richard joined HSBC in 2011 to advise on technology strategy. Richard’s ability to bring together and successfully lead diverse groups to deliver change programmes led to his appointment as CIO in 2015.

Richard has worked in the Wholesale and Investment Banking industry since the 1980's, living through many of the fundamental changes in the industry, including five mergers, Big Bang, Y2K, Euro and the 2007 Credit Crisis. During this time he has held numerous leadership roles at prominent institutions including Baring Brothers, Phillips and Drew, UBS, Bankers Trust, Deutsche Bank, Halifax, ABN and RBS.

Prior to joining HSBC, Richard was Deputy CIO for GBM at RBS where he executed a radical cost reduction programme and implemented a new global operating model. Before that he was CIO for Global Markets and Europe IT at ABN where he steered the IT function through the financial crisis and the largest ever banking merger when it was acquired by RBS.

Simon Lumsdon

Simon joined Hermes in November 2015 to head up the technology team and brings extensive experience of asset management and banking technologies. Simon comes from BlueBay Asset Management, where he grew the technology base from small beginnings to that required for a large sophisticated fixed income house over a 10-year period. Previously, Simon was a Director at Credit Suisse, where he managed a large front office fixed income trading technology team during a nine-year tenure. Simon has a PhD in particle physics from Glasgow University.

Charlotte is the Head of Innovation and Fintech Alliances at Schroders, where she is globally responsible for the approach to innovation both in terms of building capabilities within the organisation, and also externally, looking to identify and work with startups relevant to Schroders' business priorities.

Since joining in September last year she has established a number of initiatives including Cobalt, Schroders' recently launched Startup In Residence programme.

Charlotte worked with companies across Financial Services in her previous role at a boutique consultancy firm, on a range of projects to develop their technology strategies, engage with the startup ecosystem and roll out new ways of working across their organisations.

She spent most of 2016 based in Silicon Valley, building a network of Venture Capital firms, accelerators / incubators and startups.

Naomi Clarke

Naomi Clarke has over 30 years experience in the financial sector, and has worked with executive boards and the senior management of many well-known names, including buy and sell-side organisations, asset servicers, insurers, a data vendor and a pension fund. She specialises in business and data strategy and designing and enhancing operating models, with particular emphasis on data, operational risk, governance and process redesign. Naomi has also established central data functions and has recently been acting as interim Head of Data (CDO) for an investment manager. She holds an MA from the University of Oxford.

Adri Purkayastha is currently Head of Technology and Cyber Risk Analytics at BNP Paribas Group. He is responsible for strategy, development and roll-out of analytic solutions to support group’s ICT Risk Management Platform in areas such as Cyber, Digital, Technology and Fraud.

In Deloitte Risk Advisory, Adri led strategy development, R&D of AI and analytics solutions and partnerships in areas such as Credit Risk, Market Abuse, Cyber Risk. As product owner of the firm’s Anomaly Detection platform, he led engineering, data science, strategic R&D, sales and partnership with sector leads globally.

In Digital transformation, he led efforts in AI & analytics, data engineering for cloud native, multi-million-pound digital banking and lending proposition entirely developed in Google Cloud. Earlier, he worked as a Forensic Data Analytics consultant for FIDS, EY. Before EY, he worked in Digital Analytics Consulting for Pitney Bowes and in IoT analytics for Display Data. 

In the past, he founded companies in Consumer Internet, EdTech, renewable energy and Nanotechnology space.
