Mike Chen, PhD

Dr. Chen is the Head of Alternative Alpha Research at Robeco. In this role, he is responsible for leading the research and development of innovative alpha insights and solutions for use across Robeco. He started in this role in March 2022. Dr. Chen’s current research interests are in the areas of quant sustainability, machine learning/NLP, and alternative data, and has published a number of journal articles on these topics.
Previously, Dr. Chen was the Head of Sustainable Investments at PanAgora. In that role, he led the research and development of sustainable investment solutions across PanAgora, and the commercialization of PanAgora’s ESG offerings. In addition, he is responsible for model research and development in the Equity Division while participating in the daily management of the firm’s portfolios. While at PanAgora, Dr. Chen developed and applied for a patent for a framework to construct sustainable portfolios based on dual objectives of alpha and sustainability outperformance.
Prior to joining PanAgora, Dr. Chen was a Portfolio Manager at BlackRock’s Scientific Active Equity (SAE) team, where his responsibilities include portfolio management and research into alpha insights for use across the entire SAE platform. Dr. Chen started his career at Morgan Stanley in New York where he traded and managed a portfolio of exotic US rates derivatives. While at Morgan Stanley, Dr. Chen researched, developed, and patented a framework that allowed for the pricing of derivatives based on two rate curves with dynamic multiplicative spread, one of the first such models on the street.

Keyun is a world-renowned expert in cloud forensics, a cutting-edge branch of cybersecurity, having created the field during her PhD on cybercrime investigation in 2009. She has ten years of rare expertise in cloud security and risk management, having worked in academia, edited the world’s first academic reference book, trained law enforcement agencies, and contributed to international standards developments widely adopted today. Her work has resulted in significant uplifting of security, incident management and resilience of the global digital infrastructure. Keyun is currently working on her second project on cybernomics - a new field in economics dedicated to the study of digital asset valuation and cyber risk measurement, tailored for the 4th Industrial Revolution. Her theories involve novel principles, laws and valuation models for digital assets, the backbone of our economy today. She was the first to academically propose a pair of risk units for measuring cyber risk, hekla and bitmort. The units were first published in the Journal of Computer & Security in 2016, the oldest journal in the field of cyber security. Her second textbook, “Digital Asset Valuation and Cyber Risk Measurement: Principles of Cybernomics”, has been published by Elsevier Economics in May 2019.

I am an award-winning passionate computer scientist, author, engineer, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and inventor. I am neurodivergent, a pianist and violinist, and I hold the titles of EUR ING, BSc, MPhil, PhD, CEng, FIET, FRSA, AFHEA, IntPE. I hold the Freedom of the City of London, am a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Engineers and an Engineer member of the International Engineering Alliance.
I am the Chair of the Tech London Advocates Smart Cities Group, a reviewer of grant/awards of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the IET, and the ACM. I am a Council Member of the Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering Ambassadors, a Committee member of the Grace Hopper Celebration and the ABIE Awards, and I’ve served as ambassador for many technology/educational organisations.
My career includes +16 years working in engineering. I work at Google as a Data Practice Lead (AI/Machine Learning, Smart Analytics, and Data Management), and I am a Google AI Principles Ethics Fellow. I work on the Interplanetary Internet on cloud computing. My continuing academic work is at UCL and University of Oxford where I serve as an Honorary Associate Professor in Computer Science and a guest Lecturer, respectively.
I have received numerous awards and recognitions for my contributions to the industry and international science. I am an active keynote speaker and an open-source contributor.
Since 2003 I’ve actively worked towards increasing the representation of people of all kinds in Engineering and Technology.

Nick Mazing is Director of Research for Sentieo, a financial and corporate research platform for executives, investment analysts, and researchers. His career also includes having worked on both the buy side and on the sell side at Lehman Brothers. He holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and is based in Sentieo’s New York City office.

Manager of the dedicated EMIR Client Service team covering all queries from clients using the Delegated Reporting Service and our proactive outreach team, assisting clients maximise the value of the DR service.
Head of digital assets
Chris has 20 years’ experience in financial markets, entrepreneurship and investing. His first degree, a Masters in Mechanical Engineering, launched a career in financial services, specifically capital markets, sales and trading in London and Geneva with banks such as UBS, Societe Generale and BNP Paribas.
Subsequently he completed a #1 ranked Executive Education Global Entrepreneurship program at Babson College (Boston, USA), exposing him to the Silicon Valley, UK and Chinese entrepreneurial ecosystems, expanding his global network, and solidifying his passion for FinTech and innovation.
In recent years, Chris has combined his financial expertise with his passion for entrepreneurship as Head of European Innovation at Fidelity Investments before successfully founding an institutional crypto-asset custodian. Given the expanding institutional interest in crypto-assets, Chris joined Swissquote Bank to head the digital assets proposition. Swissquote is focused on maintaining its position as the number one Swiss bank for crypto-assets and continually growing its offering, including institutional equity certificates for crypto trading.
A serial entrepreneur, his start-up experience includes founding three ventures and consulting on several more in the fields of Digital Currencies, FinTech, Artificial Intelligence & Big Data.
Chris has also held Board roles at the bsi, IFS, and SwapsBall, was Founder of the Young Professionals Group for the BSCC and President of Nyon Toastmasters club. Chris remains active in the European Innovation Ecosystem, mentoring at accelerators and forming connections with some of Europe’s top VC’s and tech startups.
Global Head, Securities Market and Technology Advocacy Securities Services
Boon is Head of Securities Market and Technology Advocacy, based in Singapore.
He joined Deutsche Bank (DB) in 1998 as a Management Trainee. In his banking career, he has gained valuable cross-transaction banking and international experience in specialist and leadership roles in areas including working capital management, structured finance, risks, and funds and custody.
In his current role, Boon represents DB as a securities market and technology advocate on regulatory, market and digital changes. He has participated in APEC and the World Economic Forum Digital ASEAN forums, in digital assets/DLT, cryptocurrency and darkweb discussions; and served in industry associations like the Association of Global Custodians, ASIFMA, ASEAN+3 Bond Market Forum and the APAC CSD Group.
He pursues related interests in cryptocurrency/digital assets and cybersecurity governance; and as a community volunteer, he also supports Aging society inclusiveness and financial literacy. Boon holds a chartered accountancy qualification, MSc in Computation (AI), and a GIAC cybersecurity proficiency certificate.
Catherine Anne B. Casas

Cathy has over 17 years’ experience in the banking and finance industry spanning a breadth of roles from Treasury and Market Risk to being at the forefront of the future of finance as UnionBank’s Blockchain Center of Excellence Head.
Prior to joining the Bank’s Fintech Group, Cathy gained experience through handling Market Risk and Statistical Analysis roles. She later joined the Treasury team wherein she stayed for over 12 years, eventually heading its Fixed Income (Indonesia and South Asia) and Derivatives Desk.
Transitioning from traditional banking roles, Cathy currently leads her team which harnesses blockchain technology to prepare the Bank for the future token economy. Under her leadership, her team launched the award-winning BitBox, UnionBank’s Virtual Currency ATM- the first central bank compliant, bank-operated bitcoin ATM in the world.
Cathy is also a certified Money Market and Foreign Exchange Trader and a licensed Fixed Income Salesperson.
She graduated Statistics from the University of the Philippines – Diliman and is a candidate for Master of Science in Financial Engineering at De La Salle University.

21 years+ experience including 15 years in the Financial Crime arena. At Mashreq, leading the AML, ABC and RegTech function in Group Compliance. At HSBC, led the buildout of sustainable capability and risk stewardship of the TM framework after leeading a regional team in MENAT of 40+ covering AML Policy, Governance, Projects and Investigations in the MENA region. Passionate about technology in the AML space. Keenly observing AI, Machine Learning, DLT and it's potential in fighting financial crime sustainably. Before HSBC, led regional teams performing surveillance operations covering 24 countries in Middle East, Pakistan and Africa At Standard Chartered Bank. Developed Financial Crime Analytics capabilities globally. Experience in AML, Sanctions, Governance, Surveillance operations, Regulatory relationship (including US, UK, Middle East and Monitors), people, project and cost centre management / oversight.
Qualified CA (India), CIMA (UK) and CAMS (US). Started career at Ford India and Hewlett Packard as Financial Analyst and Six Sigma Black Belt gaining experience in Financial Analysis, Reporting and Project Management. Joined KPMG Forensic Dubai in 2005 where he led various financial fraud investigations in the region involving, in certain instances, sums exceeding US$ 20 million. Managed multi-year, multi-disciplinary AML and Sanctions assignments for various multinational banks.
End-to-end exposure to one of the largest Fraud Risk Management assignment for one of the largest conglomerates in the region.
Having spent 5+ years in the practice, moved to banking industry specialising in managing Financial Crime Risk at Standard Chartered Bank in the UAE and later covering the region. Appointed as regional head of financial crime intelligence operations for MENAP and later Africa.

Sumanda Basu is currently leading Data Quality and Controls for Société Générale Americas. He was previously responsible for data governance and data management technology. Before joining Socgen, Sumanda had several data and technology management leadership roles in JP Morgan Chase, Citi and HSBC.
Managing Partner, Cresting Wave (former CTO, Blackstone)
Bill Murphy is a Managing Partner at Cresting Wave, a technology advisory firm bringing innovative technologies to the enterprise technology community. Bill is also a board member at Accurics and investor/advisor to a broad portfolio of early-stage companies.
Bill was a Senior Managing Director and the Chief Technology Officer at Blackstone, leading the Blackstone Innovations team from 2011-2020, responsible for the firm's use of technology along with a strategic technology investment portfolio. Mr. Murphy also served on many boards of directors of our investments along with the board of the Blackstone Charitable foundation.
From 1999 - 2011, Bill was founding Chief Technology Officer for Capital IQ where he was responsible for overseeing all product design, development, infrastructure, and technology support and was involved with all operations of the business. Before Capital IQ, Mr. Murphy led teams at Sapient, delivering solutions for large clients primarily in financial services. Mr. Murphy received a BSE in Computer Science from the University of Pennsylvania, Class of ‘96.
Jay Wolstenholme I Moderator
Having joined Chartis in July 2020, Jay’s primary focus is to lead and build-out our offerings for the buy-side, both in asset management and wealth management. Buy-side is a focused area of Chartis’s expansion and we are delighted to have Jay leading this area which is increasingly important for both our clients and the industry in general. Jay was most recently a Senior Principal at Finastra. Prior to this he spent 4 years as a Senior Analyst at Celent, 4 years as the Director of Capital Markets at HP, 5 years as a Research Director at Gartner and his first 8 years in industry as a Group Manager in fixed income IT at UBS.
Jay holds a BFA from Cooper Union, a BA from Saint Lawrence University and an MBA in Finance from NYU Stern School of Business. Additionally, Jay is Series 7 certified with FINRA.

Berkery Noyes uses this application to generate market reports and to host live access to the data viahttp://mandasoft.com. Prior to Berkery Noyes, Keith worked as Director of Application Development at Valinor - Ikon Office Solutions, where he obtained certifications as a Microsoft Certified Solution Developer, Microsoft Certified System Engineer and Microsoft Certified Trainer. Earlier in his career, Keith worked on radar training simulators for Electronic Warfare Environments for the Department of Defense. As an inventor, Keith holds a US patent for a "Method of Displaying Enhanced Three-Dimensional Images," and has published in Microsoft Certified Professional Magazine and American Journal of Physics. Keith earned a B.A. degree in Physics from Middlebury College.

Ellen Gentile has over 20 years of experience in the financial services sector and has worked in various capacities for companies such as Cowan & Company, Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, Banc of America Securities and Pershing, LLC.
Prior to managing SMBC's data quality, Ellen championed the use of qualified data as a core enterprise resource supporting decision makers. To best deliver and monitor quality of service and information, Ellen established and set enterprise standards through operational quality scorecard products at Pershing, LLC. The quality based products she managed provided the much needed insight and transparency clients require to manage and grow their businesses.
Chief Strategy Officer
Ioana Surpateanu is CSO at DIA where she runs DIA Labs and coordinates policymaker/regulatory interactions on Decentralised Finance and crypto. She was formerly Co-Head of Gov’t Affairs and Innovation strategy lead at Citi as well as Vice-Chair in the American Chamber to the European Union. Prior to joining Citi she was Head of Cabinet to the Vice-Chair of the EPP Group in the European Parliament. Her professional portfolio includes collaborations with various companies from Europe and the Middle East. She appears on Innovate Finance Women in Fintech Powerlist and is shortlisted for WIBF’s Tech Star Award. Ioana received two Master’s degrees from the University of Bucharest and the University of Tel Aviv. She speaks five languages (RO, EN, FR, ES, HE).

Mason Gregory is an ESG and Sustainable Investing Specialist in the Investment Solutions Group at MFS Investment Management® (MFS®).
In this role, Mason develops research and works with clients to communicate investment strategy and insights on ESG and sustainable investing.
Prior to joining MFS in 2009, Mason was a product specialist for real estate equity strategies at The Tuckerman Group, where he was also responsible for ESG product development. Prior to that, he was a product analyst at State Street Global Advisors. Mason graduated from St. Lawrence University with a BA in English Literature and Communications Arts.

Previously, Chuck was the Chief Administrative Officer and Head of Transformation for Global Banking and Markets at HSBC. Under the Transformation banner at HSBC, Chuck led the global, cross-business effort of business model redesign and solution, using the latest market capabilities; Big Data, Automation, Distributed Ledger Technologies, Digital Platforms, FinTech partnerships and Cloud enablement.
Prior to HSBC, Chuck has held several executive roles as: a member of the EMEA Corporate Client Solutions Executive Committee at UBS, the Global COO of the Client Capital Management division at Barclays, COO Equities Americas at Nomura and the CAO of Equities EMEA at Lehman Brothers.

Following a marketing and advertising career, Fiona set up MESH Experience in 2006 to fill a gap in data and analytics. Brand growth is driven by all experiences people have with brands, yet half or more typically go unmeasured. By taking an Experience Driven Marketing approach and capturing how people come into contact with brands in real time MESH helps clients, like LG Electronics, to take quicker and smarter decisions about their investment. Fiona is a Fellow of the Market Research Society, sits on the editorial advisory board for ESOMAR’s Research World magazine, a member of the Marketing Society and sits on the board of WIRe (Women in Research). She has worked with Professor Hugh Wilson at Cranfield School of Management on a knowledge transfer partnership that was a finalist for the Innovate UK award in 2015.
Machine Learning Engineering Lead for Data Innovation
Andy McMahon is a data scientist and machine learning engineer with several years of experience leading data focussed technical teams and working to support analytics strategy at start-ups, FTSE 250, and now FTSE 100 organisations. His current role is focused on defining best practices for machine learning software development and for creating re-usable software patterns, processes, and assets to shorten the machine learning development lifecycle.
Previous to joining NatWest Andy was Analytics Lead in the Insights team at Aggreko, a team that won the Experian Data Excellence Award at the 2019 Lloyds Bank National Business Awards. His work at Aggreko on applying data science and machine learning to the optimisation of generator fleet servicing and predictive maintenance alerting also led to him winning the ‘Data Scientist of the Year’ award at the International Data Science Awards 2019. He is an active contributor to the Scottish data community and has spoken about ML Engineering, MLOps, and data science at several international conferences.
Andy has a PhD in Physics from Imperial College London and loves to spend his spare time with his wife and baby son. He also maintains a few active side projects, including writing a book on Machine Learning Engineering to be published later in the year.
