Joanne Hannaford

Head of Technology EMEA


Jo joined Goldman Sachs in 1997 in the Investment Research Division in London, automating statistical research products. In 2001, she assumed responsibility for EMEA Compliance Technology. In 2006, Jo relocated to New York to take on responsibility for Global Compliance Technology and in 2008 her responsibilities expanded to include Legal, Internal Audit and Conflicts Technology. Upon returning to London in 2010, Jo assumed additional responsibility for EMEA Federation Technology. She was named managing director in 2008.Prior to joining the firm, Jo was responsible for Global Volume Trading Technology at NatWest Markets.Jo has a first class degree and PhD in Computer Science.

Hany Choueiri

Head of Data Governance and Strategy (CDO) – EMEA


With over 25 years of experience in data, Hany Choueiri joined State Street in 2016 as the Head of Data Governance and Strategy for EMEA. Previously he was the Chief Data Officer at the Bank of England leading the strategic One Bank Data initiative. Between 2009 and 2014, Hany worked in a variety of roles at HSBC most recently as the GBM Chief Data Officer, Europe & Head of Data Quality Services. Prior to HSBC, Hany worked at Deutsche Bank, Clerical Medical and Ernst & Young where he managed a number of key client data, business intelligence, cash management and risk initiatives. Having been instrumental in pioneering one of the first Data Warehouses, Hany's career has been centered around data and its management.

His passion for data is complemented by expertise in the use of process improvement, project & programme management methods such as Six-Sigma and PRINCE2 and their combined application to successful data transformations. A regular speaker in a number of data events, Hany has also been involved in number of data centric industry initiatives such as the LEI, KYC Utility and the development of Data Maturity Models


Elly Hardwick

Head of Innovation


Elly Hardwick is Head of Innovation at Deutsche Bank, responsible for leading the bank's innovation activities and managing the Deutsche Bank Labs globally.

Working at the intersection of technology and financial services, Elly works closely with fintechs and Deutsche Bank's business divisions to discover, evaluate and drive the adoption of innovations that will shape the future of banking.

Elly was the founding CEO of the fintech start-up Credit Benchmark prior to joining Deutsche Bank, where she led the company to be the independent source for wholesale credit risk data and analytics. Her career experience includes roles with Thomson Reuters, Morgan Stanley and the UK Department of Trade and Industry.

She holds an undergraduate degree from Cambridge University and an MBA with Distinction from Harvard Business School.

Rado Lipus



Rado Lipuš, CFA is the founder and CEO of Neudata, an alternative data intelligence provider. Prior to founding Neudata, Rado's professional experience spans 20 years of FinTech leadership, sales management and data innovation for the buy-side. He spent several years in quantitative portfolio construction and risk management at MSCI (Barra) and S&P Capital IQ and raised funds for CITE Investments. Rado worked latterly as Managing Director at PerTrac in London, a leading FinTech and data analytics solutions provider to Hedge Fund allocators and institutional investors in EMEA and Asia. His experience also includes financial data firms such as eVestment, 2iQ Research, I/B/E/S and TIM Group. An acknowledged expert, Rado is regularly invited to speak about alternative data at conferences and industry events. Rado received his Master of Business Administration from the University of Graz, Austria and is a CFA charter holder.

Murat Abur

Murat is the co-founder and CTO of Suade, a software company that enables financial institutions to understand and deliver their regulatory requirements. Suade changes the way financial institutions absorb and react to regulations through a platform of automated tools and services driven by data.

Prior to founding Suade, Murat worked in a variety of roles in banking at BNP Paribas and Nomura. Murat holds degrees in Physics and Math from the University of Chicago.

Joerg Guenther

Chief Technology Officer EMEA


Joerg Guenther was born and raised in Switzerland and spent the first nine years of his career as developer, project manager and IT manager with Zurich Cantonal Bank. He holds a Swiss federal certificate in IT Project Management and the equivalent of a bachelor's degree in MIS (University of Zurich and Wirtschaftsinformatikschule der Schweiz). During three years in various executive consulting roles he successfully managed large scale international projects for UBS, Credit Suisse, the Swiss Funds Association as well as Zurich Financial Services.

In 2001 he moved to New York and joined KPMG Consulting as manager in the financial services division before he took a position with Julius Baer as Chief Information Officer. In his tenure with Julius Baer (later renamed to Artio Global and taken public in 2009) he successfully transformed Information Technology and established close business alignment enabling all investment strategies from Fixed Income (High Yield, High Grade, Hedge Funds) to U.S. and International Equity to grow and diversify the product lineup as well as their distribution channels.

In 2012 Mr. Guenther joined Northern Trust as Senior Vice President responsible for Hedge Fund Services Technology and later on Global Derivatives Technology. He successfully led the implementation of the world's largest hedge fund and continues to play a leading role in several strategic, transformational technology programs. In June 2016 Mr. Guenther was appointed Chief Technology Officer EMEA, based in London. He is also the Global Head of Fund Accounting and Transfer Agency Technology.

Magdalena Kron

Head of Rise London and VP Open Innovation


Magdalena Krön is Head of Rise London and VP for Open Innovation at Barclays. With plans to be a part of the disruption of the financial industry she is building out the London ecosystem of startups for Rise, Barclays global open innovation platform. Magdalena started her professional career in retail management and whilst doing a Masters in Technology Entrepreneurship at UCL Magdalena co-founded a company building a flexible workforce application for retail chains. In 2013 she joined Capital Enterprise where she built and grew the service Capital List and launched the London Co-Investment Fund. In her current role Magdalena keeps one foot in the startup world and another foot in the corporate world as she's facilitating connections between the two. As a great advocate for improving gender diversity in tech she is also the co-founder of the Geek Girl Meetup community in the UK.

Stewart Carmichael

Chief Technology Officer


Stewart Carmichael - Chief Technology Officer, Schroders
Stewart joined Schroders in March 2015 as Group Head of IT and in 2016 joined the Schroders Group Management Committee reporting to the CEO. Prior to joining Schroders, Stewart was Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for JP Morgan Corporate & Investment Bank in Asia from 2009 to 2014. From 1993 to 2008 Stewart held numerous senior leadership positions during a 16 year career at Merrill Lynch. These included CTO for Merrill Lynch Asia Pacific, Chief Administrative Officer of Merrill Lynch Global Services Pte Ltd and CTO for MLIM International. Stewart has lived in New York, Singapore, Hong Kong, and London where he is currently based. He is a keen squash player, skier and golfer and has a Bachelor of Science (with Honours) and an Honorary Doctorate from the of Hertfordshire.



Michael Natusch

Global Head of Artificial Intelligence


Michael is the Global Head of AI in the Group Digital team of Prudential plc. He joined Prudential last year from Silicon Valley based Pivotal Labs where he led the Data Science team.

His experience lies in the application of artificial intelligence methods to large-scale, multi-structured data sets, in particular neural network based deep learning techniques. Michael previously founded and sold a ‘Silicon Roundabout' based startup and prior to that was a partner at a major consulting firm.

Michael holds a PhD in theoretical physics from the University of Cambridge and is a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society.

Theo Hill

Executive Director


Theo Hill is an Executive Director in UBS's London office, where he heads up the Data and Technology Strategy group within UBS's Intelligence Capability. His teams are responsible for robotics across Risk, functional design of UBS's surveillance systems, and associated data analytics and data science. Prior to joining UBS he designed and led technical teams building anti-fraud and financial crime detection systems at HSBC and Detica (now BAE Systems AI). Before turning to the dark arts of surveillance, fraud and financial crime technology he worked as a scientist, and holds a PhD in molecular genetics from the University of Vienna and a Masters from Oxford.

Mostafa Mostafavi



Dr. Mostafa Mostafavi is a part time Researcher at Imperial College London and Director and Founder of Meybod Analytics, a company which provides education and research in the field of application of statistical learning in industries such as Health Care, Engineering, Finance and Telecommunication . He has worked as a Vice President for Quantitative Risk and Capital Strategy at Credit Suisse in London, Model Risk Audit Manager at HSBC in London, Quant for Asset liability Management at Barclays Capital in London, Quantitative Analyst for Credit Derivatives at Commerzbank in London, Quantitative Developer at International asset management in London and lecturer at UEL in London. His education includes BSc. in Communication Engineering from Sharif University of Technology, MSc. in Communication Engineering from King's College London, MSc. in Mathematics and Finance from Imperial College London, PhD in Communication Engineering from University of Surrey and PhD in Application of Statistical Learning in Finance at Imperial College London.

Steve Fribbens

Executive Director - Head of Compliance Surveillance


Steve Fribbens joined CIBC in October 2016 from Santander GBM as Head of Surveillance, Europe. After 13 years spent on the various trading floors of GNI Ltd, Fimat and Newedge in sales, trading and execution roles, Steve moved from the trading floor in 2010 due to the products and markets knowledge gap that existed in Compliance and helped establish the Newedge surveillance function under the increasing scrutiny of the Exchanges and the Regulators. Steve has worked closely with some of the largest names in trade surveillance and often provides SME input with regards to how the various systems should function and how the output should be displayed. In a career spanning close to 30 years in the City, Steve has also held back office and middle office positions at Nat West along with a Compliance Managers Role at Creditex.

Steve has previously held the UK CISI Regulatory exam, the FCA Customer Function (CF30), the Eurex trader qualification and also the U.S Series 3 National Commodities Futures and Series 30 Branch Manager exams.

Igor Lobanov

Head of Systems Architecture


Igor Lobanov is the Head of Systems Architecture at Legal & General Investment Management, one of Europe's largest institutional asset managers with more than £900bn of assets under management. He is responsible for defining technology strategy and leading strategic technology innovation initiatives in the organisation. Igor has been taking an active role in the industry over the past years. Igor has 15 years of experience working in enterprise IT predominantly for financial services industry both in the UK and Russia, with background in developing high-throughput transaction processing systems.

Barry Childe

Distinguished Engineer Global Head DIstributed Ledger Technology


Childe has 30 years experience in front office Financial IT technologies and large scale distributed and analytical computing.  More recently, he is noted for his work in evangelising Grid, E-Trading and Cloud Computing solutions throughout the financial services community with particular emphasis on large-scale High Performance Computing (HPC) solutions.  Childe holds a PhD in Computer Science and a collection of IT industry qualifications.  Childe has served previously in various roles across the globe including: CTO, PaaS Division at VMware; CTO Gemstone Systems; Head of I.T, Westpac Institutional Bank; Head of HPC / Application Infrastructure Engineering at Barclays Capital; Head of HPC at The Royal Bank of Scotland; Head of IT at TD Securities; CTO at Nordea Bank and Head of IT at Christiania Bank.  Childe lives in Seaford, England and his favourite pastimes are Golf and anything to do with Aston Martin Motor Cars.

Oliver Harris

Head of InResidence


Oli Harris leads FinTech and In-Residence for J.P. Morgan's Corporate and Investment Bank. In this role, Oli is responsible for assessing emerging trends and their impact to J.P. Morgan, fostering relationships with the FinTech ecosystem, and translating these connections into partnerships through In-Residence to transform the way we, and our clients, do business.

Previously he worked for the Office of Tony Blair as an Advisor to the President's Office of Myanmar, a Project Manager at the World Economic Forum where he led their New Energy Architecture Initiative, and as a Strategy Consultant at Accenture.

Oli is a passionate design thinker, having spent time at Stanford's d.school, and is particularly interested in the space between large corporates and emerging companies to generate real outcomes. He is Tech London Advocate, member of Allen & Overy's Fuse Selection Committee, and mentor at selected accelerators. Oli is a graduate of Cambridge University.



Andrew Weir

Technology Consultant and Former Group CTO and Chief Scientist


Andrew Weir is an independent technology advisor. He has worked in both large enterprises and small start ups over the last 25 years. Until recently he was group CTO and Chief Scientist at HSBC overseeing technology innovation and technology strategy. He has also been CTO at SagePay, chief architect at BP, and was a senior technologist at UBS, Deutsche Bank, Dresdner Kleinwort Benson and Swiss Bank Corporation. He was also CTO at ebookers.com taking them through an IPO on Nasdaq in 1999. He holds a PhD in Particle Physics from CalTech.

Christian Hunt

Head of Compliance & Operational Risk Control EMEA


Christian Hunt is the Global Head of Compliance & Operational Risk Control for Asset Management and Global Head of Compliance & Operational Risk Control for EMEA at UBS.

Prior to joining the Firm, he was Chief Operating Officer of the Prudential Regulation Authority (“PRA”), a subsidiary of the Bank of England. The PRA is responsible for the prudential supervision of deposit takers, insurance firms and designated investment firms in the UK. Christian previously held the position of Head of Department at the PRA (and before that its predecessor organisation the FSA) responsible for the supervision of international systemically important banks.

He has also run a London based family office which managed hedge funds and was active in private equity. Prior to that he was a Director in Investment Banking at Deutsche Bank. In addition to his corporate finance responsibilities, Christian also ran the Chairman’s Office and spent two years on secondment at the UK Takeover Panel, regulating takeovers and mergers. He began his career at Arthur Andersen, is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and holds an MA from the University of Oxford.

Andrew Parry

Product Designer


Andrew Parry is a Product Designer at Bloomberg L.P. He started out at Instinet writing electronic trading systems, and advanced through increasingly senior roles at tier one investment banks, before moving to Bloomberg.

Andrew is now working on product design and management, especially data and metadata, so that Bloomberg L.P. delivers application ready products. This reflects his interest in technology that provides maximum business value.


Sylvain Champonnois



Sylvain Champonnois is a member of BlackRock's Active Equity team where he focuses on the use of alternative datasets, natural language processing, and machine learning for generating alpha. Prior to joining BlackRock in 2011, he was an assistant professor of Finance at the University of California, San Diego from 2007 to 2011 and a visiting professor at Imperial College Business School, London from 2010 to 2011. Dr. Champonnois earned an Engineering degree from Ecole Polytechnique in 2002 and a PhD in Economics from Princeton University in 2007.

Joe worked at J.P. Morgan for 11 years, across debt capital markets, equity capital markets and investment banking coverage, latterly as client executive to a number of large global companies. Thereafter he spent 3 years as Chief Investment Officer for a private equity fund with a portfolio valued at c.$17 billion.

Gilad Amir

Head of FinTech Discovery


Gilad is the Head of FinTech Discovery of Lloyds Banking Group.  His remit includes harnessing relationships with FinTechs and disruptive techs to support Lloyds Banking Group digital market leadership and transformation.  Prior to LBG, Gilad did a variety of roles as a founder, CEO, Director and advisory board member in multiple fintechs including EZBOB, Satago, Paze and others, more specifically around alternative lending platforms, credit decisioning systems and BFM. Gilad was also the turnaround CFO of Insightix (acquired by McAfee) and had been doing M&A and audit at Ernst & Young M&A and High-tech practice


Pawel Makowski



Pawel Makowski is a Director in The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ. He is responsible for Integrated Stress Testing and Risk Appetite for the EMEA region. Before joining BTMU, Pawel worked in the consulting industry in the UK and Europe, focusing on prudential regulation, capital management and risk modelling. Pawel is a Professional Risk Manager (PRM) certificate holder.

Giles Spungin

Global Head of Operational Risk and Regulatory Compliance Analytics


Giles is responsible for development and imbedding of advanced analytics strategy for Op Risk and Reg Compliance functions globally, including deployment of bank-wide predictive risk management solutions. Activity examples include automation and behavioural analytics, surveillance analytics and capital modelling. Giles chairs Model Risk Oversight Committee. Prior to joining HSBC, he worked in other highly quantitative roles, including positions at Goldman Sachs and Deutche Bank. Giles has High Frequency Algorithmic Trading development background.

Gouri PKhatua

MiFID II Project Manager Compliance, Europe


Gouri PKhatua is a compliance and risk professional across multiple Financial Services sectors and jurisdictions. She is currently leading the MiFID II Programme across EU region in Rabobank. Prior to this she has worked with the Co-founder of SAS Fintech firm in developing the MiFID II reporting solution for Compliance. She has served as a lead across various work streams including Transaction Reporting, Algorithmic Trading and Investor Protection. As a Strategic Risk Consultant in Wipro she has advised many institutions on Dodd Frank and EMIR in Europe, Asia and US. Professional experience: Brexit implications, Compliance, Global Financial Regulations, Risk and Strategic Advisory.
