In addition, as part of a new initiative for 2017 we have selected 10 of the very best speakers and/or industry professionals within the financial trading technology sector to join our new European WatersTechnology Advisory Board. These industry professionals have volunteered their time and effort to help develop this year’s WatersTechnology Innovation Summit to help us to ensure high-level quality content is provided to our attendees.

Sarah Biller

Founder & CEO

Sarah Biller is very active in the FinTech community. Sarah is the co-Founder of the FinTech Sandbox and currently sits on its Board of Directors. She is also an Entrepreneur, Advisor, Investor and teaches a graduate level course on the evolution of Financial Technology at Brandeis University.

Sarah was also most recently the Head of Innovation Ventures at State Street Bank's Global Exchange division and its Chief Operating Officer for Innovation. Prior to joining State Street, Sarah has been a Principal in the launch of several successful venture-backed start-ups in the FinTech and Life Sciences sectors. Most recently she was the Co-Founder and President of Capital Market Exchange (CMX), a venture-backed predictive analytics platform utilizing investor sentiment to help bond investors anticipate near-term changes in spreads.

Sarah has also held roles at Fidelity Investments; worked on MCI's corporate venture team; and launched and led research divisions for Fortune 500 CFO's and treasurers at the Corporate Executive Board. Ms. Biller studied Finance at West Virginia University and George Washington University.

JP Rangaswami

JP Rangaswami is the Chief Data Officer for Group Technology and Operations (GTO); he joined Deutsche Bank in January 2015. As Chief Data Officer JP is responsible for enhancing the Bank’s data quality and controls. The objective is to raise data quality and governance at the Bank to a level of excellence so it can be used to help advance the Bank’s digital strategy and competitive advantage. Originally an economist and financial journalist, JP has 34 years of experience in information technology, primarily in the financial sector. Prior to joining the Bank, JP was the Chief Scientist at Salesforce.com where he drove forward the business’s products and social service innovation capabilities, leading to him ranking 4th in Computer Weekly's 2013 list of the most influential people in IT. He has previously held senior IT positions at a number of leading multinational organisations including BT plc and Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein where he was named CIO of the Year by Waters Magazine in 2003, CIO Innovator of the Year by the European Technology Forum in 2004 and European Innovator of the Year by Innovate in 2005. JP is a popular keynote speaker, specialising in the future of work, disruptive technologies and innovation. His TED talk "Information is food" and his ‘confusedofcalcutta.com’ blog are particularly popular with enterprise technologists. He is also a Fellow of the British Computer Society, a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts, a Trustee of the Web Science Trust and a Trustee of the Computer History Museum. Over the years JP has also written for a number of books and publications; The Cluetrain Manifesto, The Gameful World, and Scientific American. As a venture partner for Anthemis Group and an advisory board member of Byte Night, a charity helping homeless young people, JP is passionate about helping and developing others.

Michael Kollo

Michael is the Deputy Global Head of Research at Rosenberg Equities and is an active researcher in factor pricing, portfolio construction and risk management. Prior to joining Rosenberg Equities, Michael was Head of Risk for Renaissance Asset Management, in charge of dedicated emerging market equity strategies. Prior to Renaissance, Michael held senior research and portfolio management positions at Fidelity and BlackRock. Michael's experience spans factor investing from risk-modelling to signal generation, portfolio management and product design.
Michael obtained his PhD in Finance from the London School of Economics and holds Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of New South Wales in Australia. He presently lectures at Imperial College, and is an active mentor for FinTech firms in London.

Joerg Guenther

Chief information officer C&IS and chief technology officer EMEA

Joerg Guenther has been the Chief Information Officer for Corporate and Institutional Services at Northern Trust since February 2018. He also serves as Chief Technology Officer EMEA, a role he took on in June 2016.

Joerg spent the first nine years of his career as developer, data modeler, project manager and IT manager with Zurich Cantonal Bank where he was promoted to Vice President. During three years in various executive consulting roles, he successfully managed large scale international projects for UBS, Credit Suisse, the Swiss Funds Association, as well as Zurich Financial Services.

In 2001 he moved to New York and joined KPMG Consulting as manager in the financial services division before he took a position with Julius Baer North America as Head of IT and later Chief Information Officer. In his 12-year tenure with Julius Baer (later known as Artio Global) he successfully transformed Information Technology and established close business alignment enabling all investment strategies from Fixed Income (High Yield, High Grade, Hedge Funds) to U.S. and International Equity to grow and diversify the product lineup as well as their distribution channels. Under Joerg’s technology leadership, the company was able to grow assets under management from 2 billion dollars to 75 billion dollars. Joerg played a key part in several mergers and acquisitions as well as the Initial Public Offering preceded by the establishment of the Sarbanes Oxley control framework for the public company.

Joerg joined Northern Trust in 2012, where he was initially responsible for Hedge Funds Services Technology, overseeing the Omnium platform and its related functions. He established a Centre of Excellence organization with a follow-the-sun rotation that entails staff across the globe. In 2014, Global Derivatives Technology was added to Joerg’s responsibilities. Joerg took over the role as Chief Technology Officer EMEA as of June 1, 2016 where he also was responsible for Global Fund Accounting and Transfer Agency Technology. During that time he drove transformation, innovation and business expansion and played a key role in the UBS Fund Administration acquisition as well as the launch of Northern Trust’s new Private Equity Blockchain offering. In February 2018, Joerg was appointed Chief Information Officer for our Corporate and Institutional Services business globally.

Born and raised in Switzerland, Joerg holds a Swiss Federal Certificate in IT Project Management and the equivalent of a Bachelor's Degree in Management Information Systems.

Barney Dalton

Dr. Dalton joined Aspect in November 2006. As Chief Technology Officer, Dr. Dalton leads Aspect's technology teams, which includes responsibility for the development and operation of Aspect's execution infrastructure. Dr. Dalton joined Aspect from Brevan Howard, a London based hedge fund manager, where he worked as a Senior Quantitative Developer from December 2004 until November 2006. From June 2000 to December 2004, Dr. Dalton was a Software Team Lead at RadioScape, a world leader in digital signal processing. Dr. Dalton holds a First Class Honours degree in Engineering Science (MEng) from Magdalen College, University of Oxford (where he studied from 1990 to 1994), and a PhD in Robotics from the University of Western Australia (where he studied from 1996 to 2000). Between degrees Dr. Dalton worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Oxford from September 1994 to June 1995, and as a Software Developer at The Technology Partnership from July 1995 to January 1996.

Catherine Doherty

Catherine is Investit's CEO and specialises in strategy and planning, and aligning operational strategies to the business. She has developed methodologies to help firms reduce their business complexity to improve their profitability and agility - she is an expert in "the business of investing".

Catherine founded the Investit Intelligence research service, which brings together investment firms who wish to improve their business effectiveness. She also leads the Change Management forum where Heads of Change meet to share best practice in change management and to resolve factors which prevent change happening effectively.

Prior to Investit, Catherine worked at Gartmore, GAM and BZW. At BZW she was building expert systems to do active investing as long ago as 1987, so she has a keen understanding of the transformative role that technology could play in an investment firm.

Stewart Carmichael

Stewart joined Schroders in March 2015 as Group Head of IT and in 2016 joined the Schroders Group Management Committee reporting to the CEO. Prior to joining Schroders, Stewart was Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for JP Morgan Corporate & Investment Bank in Asia from 2009 to 2014. From 1993 to 2008 Stewart held numerous senior leadership positions during a 16 year career at Merrill Lynch. These included CTO for Merrill Lynch Asia Pacific, Chief Administrative Officer of Merrill Lynch Global Services Pte Ltd and CTO for MLIM International. Stewart has lived in New York, Singapore, Hong Kong, and London where he is currently based. He is a keen squash player, skier and golfer and has a Bachelor of Science (with Honours) and an Honorary Doctorate from the of Hertfordshire. Stewart will be presenting at the keynote session where he talks about how Schroders is meeting the challenge with an enterprise-wide transformation of the way technology delivers value to the business. He explains how the entire business - not just IT - is being energised by a new operating model, a scaled agile approach and a culture of continuous innovation and improvement.

Oliver Bussman

Oliver Bussmann is a globally recognized technology thought leader and driver of large-scale transformation at multinational organizations. The Founder and Managing Partner of Bussmann Advisory, he advises enterprises, top-tier consultancies, and financial services companies looking to stay ahead of the digital disruption curve. He also holds important mandates in industry associations, including as President of the Swiss Crypto Valley Association, Global Ambassador for UK-based Innovate Finance and as a Board Member of ID2020. From 2013 to 2016 Bussmann was Group Chief Information Officer of UBS, where he successfully led a major IT transformation effort, instituted a new group-wide innovation framework and established UBS as a pioneer in the development of blockchain for use in financial services. Prior to joining UBS Bussmann was Global Chief Information Officer at SAP, where he also spearheaded significant technological transformation, and before that CIO for North America & Mexico at Allianz. Previous roles have included executive positions at Deutsche Bank and IBM. Bussmann's achievements have been widely recognized. He was named COO/CTO of the year by Financial News/The Wall Street Journal, European CIO of the Year by INSEAD/CIONET, received the Elite 8 Award, which is given to the most innovative leaders in technology working in capital markets by Wall Street & Technology Magazine, and has twice been included on the Financial News "FinTech 40" list of innovators shaping the future of finance.

Magdalena Kron

Head of Rise London and VP Open Innovation

Magdalena Krön is Head of Rise London and VP for Open Innovation at Barclays. With plans to be a part of the disruption of the financial industry she is building out the London ecosystem of startups for Rise, Barclays global open innovation platform. Magdalena started her professional career in retail management and whilst doing a Masters in Technology Entrepreneurship at UCL Magdalena co-founded a company building a flexible workforce application for retail chains. In 2013 she joined Capital Enterprise where she built and grew the service Capital List and launched the London Co-Investment Fund. In her current role Magdalena keeps one foot in the startup world and another foot in the corporate world as she's facilitating connections between the two. As a great advocate for improving gender diversity in tech she is also the co-founder of the Geek Girl Meetup community in the UK.
